jillian porteous
Jillian travelled and worked in Europe between 1972 and 1978, living mainly in Madrid and Athens, visiting the galleries and cultural sights helped develop a deeper appreciation of the arts. On her return to Dunedin Jillian studied Art at Otago Polytechnic School of Art, majoring in painting and graduating with a Diploma in Fine Arts.

She now lives in Bendigo, Central Otago, close to the Clutha River. Her painting portrays the natural world as a felt response rather than a literal description. It strives to capture the colour, balance and harmony of this powerful and timeless landscape that touches deeper, archetypal areas of the subconscious. It is about possible stories suggested by place and event – the ‘why’ rather than the ‘what’ is.
